All that nagging, those tense screwed up faces and arms-crossed, nail biting moments are about to vanish. “NO WAY”, I hear you say in amazement. “YES WAY”, I reply. I say this as it is probably because you are reading books that are not suited to you.
What on earth are you talking about?
What on earth are you talking about?
I’m talking girl talk. When we shop the cat-eyes come out to play, hunting for our dress and shoe sizes. Since we all come in different shapes and sizes, one size is not for everyone. This is the same with books, but they come under different genres. Just like your outfits represented your unique style, each genre is suited to your own unique personality. This is why it isn’t often we find a book fit for every person.
Although many of you girls have similar styles, you will never be identical. This is a good thing because having your own sense of style helps you to grow into a well-steered adult. This is where reading and books come into the equation. We know we all have our own sense of style, but I bet you haven’t thought about reading books being a big part of it, right?
Just because a million other girls may be reading the same book it does not mean that they read it same way as you. They may act out loud, put-on voices for different characters, imagine different settings and even create different looking characters. The beauty of this is that no one has to physically hide their thoughts because they are naturally kept in your imagination. So you can think and feel how you like without anybody knowing. Cool, isn’t it?
It is your own little secret, Shhhhh!
Everyone has an imagination but many of us don’t know how to use it to its best. Don’t trick yourself into thinking you don’t have one because everyone does, but it is how you use it that matters. The ability to read is the key to your imagination. Creating your own mental picture of how you perceive the characters has never been so exciting!
I find the one big bonus of reading is that no one is there to tell you that you are wrong since your imagination is unique to you. So if you are shy, find reading too boring or you simply cannot read well, then the most important thing you can do is TRY. My mum and dad have always taught me one valuable lesson which is that if you show you are trying then no one will knock you down.
Please remember girls, there is not only one way to read a book. We do not all read books the same way, or imagine things or characters to be the same way either, that is because we all think differently and feel differently about different stories. Remember, only read books that you think you will enjoy then reading will be fun.
Reading is simply a way to discover your own abilities that could unleash some talent of your very own. I’m sure you would be proud of what you could achieve, but only if you TRY!
Whoever told you that reading isn’t cool is wrong. Let’s be honest, you can never be too school for cool, be inspired by Miley Cyrus! She IS COOL and she reads and writes her own books. You can do it too!
So until next time...Keep reading Y'all :)
